Wishing you all a good summer!

Edith Draper

We look forward to hearing from Edith Draper how her trip to Luweero in Uganda with the Diocesan group went; I'm sure it will have been a life changing experience in so many ways.

Mother's Union

At the recent AGM, new officers were elected. Frankie Stanley is now our new Enrolling Member. Dorrie Draper has held this position for some eight years. We are very grateful for all she has done and how she has carried out all her duties so cheerfully. The Union is fortunate to have a branch of the Mother's Union. Such a group upholds the work of the church in prayer and can be instrumental in all sorts of activities that promote the family life of the church.

On 25th May at Kilmeen it was good to meet and welcome young Emma Margaret Anne daughter of Rosemary (née Buttimer) and Roy Logie (together with Callum) who live in Ayr, Scotland.

The Christian Aid Coffee Day

Held at Lily and Albert Shorten's on 13th May, mentioned in last month's magazine eventually raised over €1,200. Well done!

Bring & Buy

The Bring and Buy Sale for St Patrick's on 6th June was another enjoyable fun evening - and did well (raising a similar amount to the above) even though it was a fine St Silage's evening as well!

Ice Cream!

A big thank you to Betty and Jim Smith for hosting the Ice Cream Sundae/Sunday on 15th June - at the time of writing it hasn't quite happened!!

Schools

The PTA at Desertserges put on an evening “Promoting Positive Social and Emotional Development in Children” with speaker Anne Hales. This was a good initiative - thanks to all who made this evening work so well.

The Parenting Course has now finished and has been extremely beneficial for those who attended.

Both schools have had a series of Sports Days and Educational Trips.

Goodbye

We say goodbye to John and Vanessa Purdy as they set off for Donegal. John will be long remembered for his work with young people. He has also been a good ecumenical colleague to work with at festivals and special occasions - especially for Lent and Holy Week. We wish them both well in their new circuit.

Open Gardens

Sunday 6th July, 10am to 6pm - Open Gardens at David and Mary Tanner's home. In aid of St Mary's Desertserges. This garden is part of the Open Gardens Trail and is a fascinating garden to visit. Refreshments. All Welcome.

Make sure you have the Flower Festival dates firmly in your diaries or kitchen calendars!! The Desert Shall Flower is on 3rd/4th/5th October. We will be recruiting for stewards, car parking attendants and refreshment helpers. Work will be starting soon on the tower but this won't stop us from using the church as usual.

In hospital

Our best wishes and prayers go to Jimmy Kingston in Bantry Hospital and Sam Sebury at St Fin Barre's Hospital. Bobby Shorten continues well at St Monica's (St Fin Barre's.) Ernest Sebury will be going for his long awaited hip operation in July.

Death

Our sympathies extend to the bereaved family of Peter Dukelow; nephew of Chrissie Draper.

Holy Baptism

June 15th in St Bartholomew's Church, Kinneigh - Molly Rebecca, daughter of Cathal and Liz Creedon.

Holy Matrimony

June 14th in St Bartholomew's Church, Kinneigh - Dermot Conner and Laura Haley
